Ever See a Star Wink at You?
What
star gazers among us are not fascinated by the brilliance of stars
twinkling in the night or amazed at the speed with which they
shoot across the sky at certain times of the year? It Was My Star
is a richly illustrated children's book about a group of young
campers absorbed by the wonders of a starry night as they listen
to messages affirming their loving, perfect nature and ability
to be whatever they want to be in life.
Many children experience emotional
distress and feelings of unworthiness on a daily basis from a
variety of causes, including family stress and violence. At no
time in our recent history has the pain of loss and grief suffered
by thousands of children been so much in public awareness as in
the dark days following September 11, 2001.
This book addresses the needs of
these children and countless others for reassurance, love and
hope. It Was My Star was inspired from a deep desire to reach
children and affirm to them that they are perfect, loved, safe
and powerful no matter what happens in their lives and no matter
what anyone might say to them. The story reminds each of us that
we were born brilliant stars, and that the more love we give to
others, the brighter we shine.
On the enclosed CD, readers can
listen to the passionately told story and poem as well as hear
an original song accompanied by the talented singer/composer and
an enthusiastic group of children. The total package includes
two bookmarks and offers a variety of ways to reinforce positive,
self-affirming messages such as "It's great being me!"
Theresa Gooch is a writer, businesswoman
and mother of two teenage children, Abigail and Bryant. Theresa
and her husband Don, live in Selma, Oregon. Barbara Irvin, is
a personal development and wellness facilitator, writer, mother
and grandmother. A recently retired nursing professor, Dr. Irvin
still teaches mental health nursing part-time in Ashland, Oregon.
